The Role of Probiotics in Preventing Recurrent Bacterial Vaginosis and Vulvovaginal Candidiasis: A Literature Review

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) and vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) are the most common vaginal infections that cause discharge in women. An imbalance of normal microbiota can make it easier for vagina to become infected with bacteria fungi. The recurrence rate both diseases is 40–60%. Therefore, alternative therapies needed prevent these two diseases. Probiotics believed be able maintain a balance vagina. This study aims determine role probiotics BV VVC therapy, A literature search was performed on databases namely PubMed Science Direct, using several keyword combinations obtain relevant results. There were 12 studies met inclusion exclusion criteria. six explaining VVC, respectively. use intravaginally or orally significantly reduce diseases, restore conditions as well improve clinical symptoms VVC. combination antibiotics increase effectiveness therapy.
